Plant Community LA Receives it’s First Grant

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news — Plant Community LA has received our very first grant from the Rotary Club of Altadena! This generous support will help launch our Altadena Poppy Fields Project, an initiative designed to bring hope, beauty, and resilience back to our community in the wake of the Eaton Fire.

The Altadena Poppy Fields Project is more than just planting poppy seeds — it’s about healing the land and our community. Through a series of educational events and supportive services, we’ll work alongside Altadena residents to restore the health of soils through bioremediation and reimagine their landscapes using sustainable, fire-wise gardening practices. Our goal is to create healthy, vibrant, resilient spaces that reduce wildfire risk, conserve water, support local biodiversity, and restore a sense of place and pride.

With this grant, we’ll be able to:

  • Host hands-on workshops on restoring healthy soils

  • Provide garden coaching to residents rebuilding their yards

  • Distribute seed mixes and resources for creating pollinator-friendly, drought-tolerant gardens that remove toxins from the environment

  • Foster a community of neighbors helping neighbors in recovery

The Eaton Fire left scars on the land and our sense of well-being — but nature has an incredible way of rebounding, and so do people. By working to sustainably restore the soil, we honor Altadena’s natural heritage while building a stronger, safer future for everyone.

We’re deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of Altadena for believing in our vision and investing in this work. Together, we’re sowing the seeds of renewal — one garden, one neighbor, and one plant at a time.

Stay tuned for upcoming workshop announcements and opportunities to get involved. Altadena will bloom again! 🌼
